Taken on March 20, 2015, during the Musink Festival at the Orange County Fairgrounds, this shot shows Tim Armstrong leaning into his custom “DIRTY” electric guitar. Sharp backlighting outlines his silhouette against a packed outdoor arena. Tim came up in Operation Ivy, has fronted Rancid for decades and runs Hellcat Records.

I got into this band at 10 years old, when I swiped my older brother’s copy of “…And Out Come the Wolves,” and it became the record that pulled me out of Southern California pop-punk and into hardcore for good.
